The leather seats and steering wheel meet the highest standards of both look and feel. Exhilaration and relaxation combine effortlessly, especially if the dynamic multi-contour front seats with massage function are fitted. As you might expect, the optional COMAND multimedia system with hard drive navigation represents the latest technology. Yet unusually for a coupé, there’s also a generous amount of space in the boot.
Inner beauty
Seductive lines
Our designers were asked to create a shape that’s both seductive and utterly distinctive – the result is the beautiful new CLS. At first glance, it’s difficult to ignore the dynamic, sweeping roof and what is called the ‘dropping line’. This begins above the front wheel-wells and slopes downwards towards the rear, in a new interpretation of historic Mercedes-Benz sports car styling. Low, frameless side windows enhance the effortless beauty, while flared rear wheel arches hint at a more powerful nature.
Instant attraction
The front end of the new CLS is unmistakable. A striking radiator grille formed separately from the hood and elongated air inlets add to the vehicle’s athletic appearance. Our designers blended athleticism and elegance to create a car that is as distinctive by night as by day, with the world’s first full active LED headlights. The 71 individual LEDs come as standard on the Sport, and are divided into three arrow-shaped layers, providing the driver with a significantly enhanced view of the road.
Alluring style
The interior features a wraparound dashboard sweeping from the driver’s door, over the instrumental panel support, and across the front passenger door.
Whether high-gloss brown burl walnut or high-gloss black ash, the wood has been perfectly fitted around the contours for a handcrafted finish. The newly designed centre console, dials and full-colour screen also provide an impressive combination of the classic and modern.
Striking performance
Improved engines extract more driving enjoyment from each drop of fuel and impressive levels of torque. 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission, precise suspension and Direct Steering ensure that power is transferred smoothly and effortlessly to the road. However, in terms of fuel consumption, the CLS is surprisingly modest, thanks to the introduction of BlueEFFICIENCY measures. These succeed in reducing CO2 emissions by up to 20% compared to the original CLS.
Eye-catching safety
Safety is paramount in the new CLS, letting you focus on what’s most important – the drive. Safety features include Attention Assist, which analyses your driving style and suggests a break if signs of fatigue are detected and Pre-Safe®, which can recognise an imminent collision and initiate protection measures. In addition, the new CLS comes with comprehensive airbag protection as standard, including a driver’s side kneebag, and a system of side, pelvis and windowbags.
The proportions remain as spectacular as ever. A long bonnet, pillarless side windows and sloping roofline make this unmistakeably a CLS, although the design is all-new.
